How to Fit a 50cc Motorcycle Seat Cover in 15 Minutes

Fitting a 50cc seat cover is easier than you'd think. With the right gear and our step-by-step method, you can install your new BikeSellier cover in under 15 minutes. This complete tutorial walks you through it step by step. And if you're after the ultimate in personalisation, give our 3D Configurator for 50cc Motorcycle Seat Covers a try.

What You'll Need

First up, your BikeSellier cover (comes with a guide).

Next, a manual staple gun with 8-10mm staples (12mm for motocross).

Then a flat screwdriver or staple remover.

A hairdryer too (optional, but it makes fitting easier).

And scissors (to trim if needed).

Step 1: Remove the Seat (2 min)

Take the seat off your bike. Depending on your model (Derbi, Beta, KTM...), it's held on by 1 or 2 bolts. Keep the bolts somewhere safe.

Step 2: Strip Off the Old Cover (3 min)

Flip the seat over. Using the flat screwdriver or staple remover, pull out all the staples holding the old cover in place. Work methodically from the centre out to the edges. Gently peel off the old cover without damaging the foam.

Step 3: Check the Foam (1 min)

Inspect the condition of the foam. If it's crushed or misshapen, now's the time to replace it or add some extra foam. Foam in good shape is the key to a clean result.

Step 4: Position the New Cover (2 min)

Lay your BikeSellier cover over the foam. Centre the design properly by lining up the seams with the edges of the seat. The front of the cover matches the nose of the seat. Check that the design sits straight and symmetrical.

Step 5: Staple the Front (2 min)

Start at the front (the nose of the seat). Pull the cover tight and drive in 3-4 staples. This is the anchor point you'll work the rest of the tension from.

Step 6: Staple the Rear (2 min)

Move to the rear. Pull the cover towards you, stretching it as tight as you can, then staple. Alternate between left and right for even tension.

Step 7: Staple the Sides (3 min)

Staple the sides, working from the centre out to the ends. Always pull firmly before each staple. Space the staples no more than 1.5 cm apart. For motocross/enduro, double up the staples on the high-tension areas.

Pro tip: use the hairdryer to gently warm the synthetic leather. It goes softer and stretches more easily, giving you a crease-free finish.

Step 8: Finishing Touches and Refitting (1 min)

Check the result. Sort out any creases by pulling and repositioning the staples involved. Trim off any excess material if needed. Refit the seat on your bike and admire your work.

Model-by-Model Tips

Derbi Senda: an easy seat to cover, moderate tension does the job.

Beta RR 50: watch out for the narrow nose, start at the front.

KTM SX 50: a slim seat, max tension recommended, use 12mm staples.

Yamaha DT 50: the foam is often crushed on older models, so check it first.

Mistakes to Avoid

Not pulling it tight enough: the cover will wrinkle once you're riding.

Too much space between staples: the cover will come loose.

Forgetting to centre the design before stapling.

Using staples that are too short (8mm minimum).

FAQ

Do I need a special tool?
Nope, a simple manual staple gun does the trick. You'll find one at any hardware store for 10-15 EUR.

Can I refit the cover if I get it wrong?
Yes, just pull out the staples and start again. BikeSellier material is tough and stands up to several fittings.
