How to Change and Staple Your 50cc Motorbike Seat Cover (Tutorial)

Swapping the seat cover on your 50cc yourself is totally doable in under 30 minutes with a bit of method. No need to be a mechanic. Here's the step-by-step tutorial for a clean, taut finish with no wrinkles.

What you'll need

  • A staple gun (ideally pneumatic or electric; a heavy-duty manual one can do the job)
  • The right staples (6 to 10 mm depending on the thickness of the seat's plastic base)
  • A flathead screwdriver to pull out the old staples
  • Wire cutters / pincers
  • A bit of patience and a clear workspace

Step 1: Remove the seat and strip the old cover

Take the seat off the bike. Flip it over, then pull out the old staples one by one with the flathead screwdriver and the pincers. Keep the foam clean and inspect it: if it's damaged, now's the time to sort it out.

Step 2: Position the new cover

Lay your new BKS cover nicely centered on the foam. Take your time lining it up: find the front, the back, and the side seams. Good centering from the start is 80% of the result.

Step 3: Stapling (the anti-wrinkle technique)

The golden rule: staple in opposite points, the way you torque a wheel. Start with a staple at the front, then pull and staple at the back, then the sides. Tension the material as you go, without yanking it like a brute. Tighten up the staples around the curves to avoid wrinkles.

Step 4: Finishing touches

Trim any excess material if needed, check that no staple is sticking out, and put the seat back on. Ready to ride.

💡 Don't fancy doing it yourself? We can do it for you: with the 100% Custom Seat, you send us your seat and we send it back ready to bolt on.

Tip: our covers are cut model by model to fit the foam perfectly. Find yours in the 50cc collection, or build your own on the 3D configurator. And if your seat soaks up water or slips, also check out Slippery seat: causes and solutions.
